With the arrival of tourists and the increase in car traffic on the roads, the Carabinieri of the Cagliari Provincial Command have implemented an extraordinary plan of checks, focusing on the island's main thoroughfares.
The accident figures in the area speak for themselves: over 1,500 incidents in 2025 and the first five months of 2026, 39 deaths, and over 700 injuries. The local severity index consistently ranks in the higher range of the ISTAT average, confirming the dangers of the Cagliari area's roads.

However, alcohol and drug-driving remain the most serious emergency: in 2025, 173 violations were reported for alcohol abuse, 87 in the first five months of 2026 alone, and 50 for drug use, 19 from January to May. The Carabinieri have already ordered a massive increase in breathalyzer testing services . Action plans include a visible and constant patrol presence on major roads. main and secondary roads, as well as awareness-raising activities with particular attention to young people, including through training sessions in schools.

Focus also on micromobility vehicles and electric scooters: "targeted and rigorous" checks are planned with particular attention to the obligation to wear helmets, the absolute ban on transporting passengers and compliance with urban speed limits.
