The new attorney general Luigi Patronaggio took office today before the college of the Cagliari Court of Appeal, presided over by Judge Gemma Cucca.

Former prosecutor of Agrigento, 56, formally took the leadership of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Sardinian capital during a hearing attended by delegations from all judicial and prosecuting offices.

Patronaggio is the prosecutor who accused Salvini of kidnapping and omission of official acts for preventing the disembarkation of migrants on board the Diciotti and the Open Arms ship.

Patronaggio - appointed by a large majority by the High Council of the Judiciary - recalled the years of service in Sicily and wanted to mention two of his reference figures, the judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino with whom he worked at the beginning of his career as a magistrate.

"I need everyone's help - he said - I come from 37 years of experience in the judiciary, with highly prestigious teachers such as doctors Falcone and Borsellino, but with many others who have given me a lot".

There was no lack of emphasis on the difficult moment of the judiciary, hit by scandals and loss of credibility caused by "power games", according to him. For this reason, he concluded "it is necessary that the judiciary work in the name of autonomy, independence and intellectual honesty".
