Cagliari, the never-ending temporary market: new end date for works (maybe) and costs increased to over 8 million
It should have been ready last February. In the meantime, five extensions have arrived and the costs have ballooned. Now there is a further deadline reported in a resolution of the Zedda CouncilPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The duration of the works was supposed to be 180 days and should have been concluded on February 2, 2024. But between variations, interruptions and extensions (five), the temporary market in Piazza Nazzari in Cagliari has not yet seen sea bream, pears, bread or steaks. Because it is still closed and unfinished. Now there is a new date (on paper) for the conclusion of the construction site: November 9. Then, assuming everything goes smoothly, there will be a transition period and finally the definitive transfer from the historic structure of San Benedetto, which will have to be refurbished. In three years, always on paper.
The timetable is reported in a new resolution of the Massimo Zedda council which, accepting some requests from the operators - on air conditioners and water systems - has also revised the financial program: the new framework speaks of an increase of about 700 thousand euros, which brings the final cost of the temporary market - which should have been ready eight months ago - to over 8 million (compared to the 7.3 expected).
The provision also reports the calendar of postponements. The first extension of 35 days was granted on February 15 (two weeks after the hypothetical end date of the works): everything should have been ready by March 21. But on April 5 (therefore after the deadline) here is a new concession: 45 more days, further presumption of end of works set for May 5. It was, because the construction site was not immobile, but slow yes. And on May 3 "a third extension of 60 days was granted which determined a postponement of the end of the works for July 4". In June, however, the need arose to make a change during the works determined, as they always say, "by unforeseen and unforeseeable circumstances" for a greater amount of 299 thousand euros. Consequence: a new extension, we'll talk about it again for August 3. But the day before the (new) deadline, "a new suspension of work was ordered for the preparation of a second report with the plan to resume work on September 11th."
Months pass and, for once, there is a preview: the construction site is reactivated on September 9th. And at the same time, the green light is given to the fifth and (so far) last extension. Which sets the conclusion of the construction site for November 9th. With more money put into action. In the end, the “temporary” structure will cost a third of the definitive one. Who knows when it will be opened.
