The market in Via Quirra, in Cagliari, will be temporarily closed to the public on August 12 and 13.

The decision was made with an ordinance signed by the mayor, Massimo Zedda, and was made necessary, explains the Municipality, "as a result of the organizational difficulties caused by a recent serious act of intimidation against an employee of the Municipality of Cagliari" working at the market.

The reference is to the employee's car, which was set on fire. A primer was found on the windshield, and an empty alcohol bottle was on the ground.

Furthermore, the document continues, "as indicated in the Market Service report on which the act is based, for the sole purpose of protecting dealers and ensuring that they can market the products already purchased for sale over the weekend, with a great sense of responsibility on the part of employees, the opening and closing of the facility was guaranteed on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 August 2024, under the strict supervision of the local police."

"The conditions of tension created generate deep difficulties for the Market Management that are currently insurmountable, in the preparation of employee shifts aimed at ensuring the regular functioning of the Market on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 August 2024. The impossibility of guaranteeing the opening, closing, custody and surveillance of the structure in fact compromise the safety conditions of the concessionaires, of the numerous citizens who access the Market, and of the health and hygiene safety conditions of the structure", concludes the note.
