In the past year, over two million euros have arrived in the coffers of the Church of Cagliari from the 8 per thousand funds: 1,081,807.38 for worship and pastoral care and 1,029,502.66 for charity.
More than 452 thousand euros have gone to support families, many in situations of economic fragility: not only material interventions, but also psychological support, parenting support, accompaniment.
The project and the use of funds by the diocese were presented to the newspapers today, also in the presence of the Archbishop of Cagliari and Secretary General of the CEI, Giuseppe Baturi.
"On June 3, 1985 - he explained - with the exchange of the instruments of ratification between the Italian Republic and the Holy See, the revision agreement of the Concordat of February 1984 and the Additional Protocol of the same year came into force, marking a transition. This agreement - Baturi underlined - was the fruit of a long process of discussion between Church and State, culminating in the creation of a joint commission that was supposed to outline organic legislation on ecclesiastical assets and the financial commitments of the State. Its objective was clear: to overcome a system that was no longer adequate to the pastoral and constitutional needs of the time, establishing a new model of cooperation that was transparent, fair and more in line with evangelical and conciliarist principles".
Returning to the funds, over 85 thousand euros were used for interventions in favor of young people. Among the works carried out, also those for catechesis and theological pastoral training (354,500 euros), those immediate of charity for the most needy (826,000 euros), for the elderly and sick (82,000 euros), for prisoners (54,000 euros), for missions (43,104.80 euros), for parishes, for initiatives of construction of worship and works of charity (325,000 euros).
The funds also support the activities of the diocesan offices, involved in Pastoral Care (242,600 euros), construction and maintenance interventions of the systems relating to buildings of the diocese and other diocesan entities (370,000 euros).
The interventions carried out in the field of cultural heritage and religious buildings thanks to CEI funds, concern cultural valorization, the protection of architectural, artistic and cultural assets (churches, pastoral ministry premises, museums, archives, libraries).
