The Anti-Terrorism Unit is taking action in the investigation into the attack on the mosque on Via del Collegio in Cagliari. The target of the fire set last night on the street in the Marina district —apparently—is the place of worship chosen by Cagliari's Islamic community.
In addition to the deputy prosecutor of the District Anti-Terrorism Directorate, prosecutor Emanuele Secci, investigators from the ROS (Special Operations Group) of the Carabinieri are already on the scene. This morning, they joined forces with the soldiers from the Stampace station, who arrived on Via del Collegio to carry out initial investigations.
The ROS investigators, led by Colonel Giorgio Mazzoli, will now have to recover footage from surveillance cameras in the area, especially since the Marina Mosque—like other interfaith places of worship—are included in the list of so-called sensitive targets being monitored.
It's therefore possible that when the alarm went off at 3:30 a.m., there may have been security cameras in the neighborhood that captured suspicious activity. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to determine the motive.
