Having declared public interest in the construction of the new stadium , the candidacy has arrived: Mayor Massimo Zedda has sent the required documentation to FIGC president Giovanni Malagò to nominate Cagliari to host the 2032 European Football Championship matches at the “Gigi Riva” (as the facility should be called).
"The necessary documentation, requested in an official statement from the Italian Football Federation on June 8," reads a statement from Palazzo Bacaredda, "was sent to the FIGC president" this morning.
At least on paper, the future of football infrastructure seems to be taking shape.
Zedda's letter is a response to Malagò's letter earlier this month, in which he, Governor Alessandra Todde, and Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini urged him to respond "within the established timeframe to UEFA's request for documents and design drawings for the new stadium, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the affected areas."
