The director of the ophthalmologist at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Cagliari changes. The new head doctor is the 38-year-old Giuseppe Giannaccare , just appointed by the general director of the university hospital Chiara Seazzu, together with the rector of Unica Francesco Mola.

He takes the place of Professor Maurizio Fossarello , who has retired. Giannaccare obtained the title of PhD at the University of Bologna, and then continued his academic career in 2017, as a researcher. From 2019 to 2023 he was an associate professor at the Magna Grecia University of Catanzaro, and then became a full professor at the University of Cagliari, in diseases of the visual system.

Author of more than 210 publications in English, he has obtained various awards, including the scientific research prize of the Italian Ophthalmological Society in 2018 and the Guinness World Record for having taken part as co-author in the largest scientific work in terms of collaborators, 15025.
