The San Benedetto market is scheduled to close on January 31 to make way for a restyling project, but uncertainty reigns among operators. The transition to the temporary structure in Piazza Nazzari, where the traders are scheduled to move, appears far from clear. During a meeting, the boxists signed a letter to be sent to the mayor, asking for written guarantees to avoid delays and economic damage.

"We will not move until the new structure is actually ready," says Massimo Ruggiu, representative of the operators. The recent inspection has in fact highlighted problems that are still unresolved: the absence of floor drains, boxes occupied by materials and reductions in square footage that would penalize some dealers.

The operators fear that a hasty closure could lead to months of inactivity and the loss of customers. "We are not interested in compensation, we want certainty," Ruggiu reiterates, underlining the need for a transfer without interruptions. During the meeting, it was also hypothesized to resort to legal action or involve the Prefect to ensure greater protection. "It is not a lack of confidence in the administration, but the delays are there for all to see. The transition must be immediate, we cannot risk further damage," conclude the operators, determined to defend their work.
