Five gold coins, 32 silver coins and 4 bronze coins. This is what was found, on Wednesday morning, inside the luggage of two Sardinians leaving for Munich, who were reported. They were intercepted by the Border Police of Cagliari, at the airport gates, as the material had appeared suspicious during checks.

From a more in-depth check, among the objects involved, coins immediately appeared to be of archaeological/cultural interest . Interviewed about the reasons for their possession, both said they were simple collectors and enthusiasts of numismatics.

Following consultation with officials from the local Superintendency, it was understood that the coins could be traced back to the Trajan/Medieval era (the 5 gold coins) , with a value on the illicit market of approximately 2,000 euros each; to the Roman Republican era (the 32 silver coins) , with an estimated value of approximately 150 euros each, and to the Punic era (the 4 bronze coins) , with a value of approximately 50 euros each.

The two Sardinians were reported at liberty for receiving stolen cultural goods.
