The traffic revolution in the center of Cagliari began at nine thirty-three, when the motorbikes of the Local Police blocked the entrance of the cars in via Roma . A moment chosen not by chance, but with the clear intention of avoiding rush hour: "The real criticality", explains Captain Guido Calzia, "we will see tomorrow morning , when entering the workplace and schools" .

And in fact, for today, the traffic has held up , with the cars sorted easily. Some major problems arose around lunchtime, when the works for horizontal signage forced the closure (with some cones) of a lane in the part of via Roma prior to the blockade.

The debut, however, satisfied the city councilor for mobility policies, Alessio Mereu: «Compared to what was expected, things are going very well , also thanks to preventive information: the results seem to me to be evident. Especially during peak hours, in the lane on the port side», continued Mereu, «we too expected a greater load. Evidently we had underestimated the intelligence of the motorists .'

Now we will need to get used to it, because the works on the portico side of via Roma will continue until the end of September: then we will move to the other side. The new look will see the four lanes become two, with a part of the road "absorbed" by a tree-lined boulevard, and a part by the sidewalk, which will be widened: "It will certainly be a more lived-in via Roma", said councilor Mereu, «and safer, because let's not forget that it is the street with the highest pedestrian investment index in the city . It will be more welcoming and with a completely different face».

The restyling will not stop here, but will extend as far as viale Trieste : in this case the closure will take place in about ten days , then the traffic will be directed to the parallel part of via Roma (currently one-way), which will become two-way gear.
