One hundred years, a life as long as a century of Italian history, lived with such discretion and determination. Ugo Mele, an engineer from Cagliari born in Oristano on May 6, 1925, blew out 100 candles yesterday surrounded by his dearest loved ones: his wife Lidia Reali, to whom he has been married for 65 years, his daughters Rosanna and Paola, and his grandchildren Silvia, Enrico and Laura.

On the occasion of the milestone, the city of Cagliari wanted to pay homage to him. The vice president of the city council, Marzia Cilloccu, brought the greetings and good wishes of the Municipality, giving Ugo Mele a commemorative parchment and a commemorative medal, symbols of gratitude and affection from the entire community.

A birthday that is also a small lesson in living history : Ugo Mele lived through the war, the reconstruction, the economic boom, the technological and cultural progress of the country. A silent and active witness, today celebrated in his adopted city for a life lived with coherence, passion and dedication. A simple celebration, without fuss, to remember that every centenary is a precious thread that holds together the plot of the past with the present.
