Maxi operation against illegal work and violations of safety regulations in the workplace. Yesterday evening, the Carabinieri of Cagliari, in collaboration with the Territorial Inspectorate of Labor and the local police, carried out an extraordinary check in two well-known public establishments in the Sant'Avendrace neighborhood and found numerous irregularities, suspended activities and fines for over 38 thousand euros.
In the first place checked, a restaurant, five of the seven workers present were found to not have a regular contract.
Furthermore, the activity did not have the Risk Assessment Document (DVR), which is required by law. In addition, the dispute was added for having organized a musical evening without the necessary authorizations, in violation of the regional legislation that regulates small musical entertainments without dancing.
The situation was similar in the second establishment inspected, a very popular pub in the area, where three out of five workers were irregular.
In light of the violations found and the employment of over 50% of the personnel "in black" , both activities were immediately suspended, which will remain in force until the employment positions are regularized and the safety regulations are respected.
Overall, the administrative fines imposed on the two commercial establishments exceed 38,000 euros.
Monitoring activities will continue in the coming days, with the aim of targeting the most serious forms of illegality in the world of work and protecting safety conditions in the most exposed sectors.
The Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Cagliari, Brigadier General Luigi Grasso, underlined the importance of these joint controls, reiterating how «Undeclared work constitutes a real social plague, a public disvalue that must be fought in a convinced and constant way because it anemics the healthy economy of a territory, makes the situation of the worker precarious, deprived of protection, guarantees and future certainties, fuels unfair forms of competition between companies. It is necessary to dedicate the maximum effort to prevent and eradicate the problem at its roots and it is precisely for this reason that this Provincial Carabinieri Command, also in compliance with the indications received from the Sardinia Carabinieri Legion Command and the decisions taken at the Committee for Public Order and Security chaired by the Prefect of Cagliari on the subject of legality, is dedicating important professional resources, always in very close synergy with other forces in the territory, such as the Territorial Labor Inspectorate and the Local Police of Cagliari, whom I thank for the fruitful activity carried out together with the military of the Arma, not least yesterday. We will continue with conviction in the control action with a shared network work, I believe it is a real priority to restore dignity and rights to all those workers who are not guaranteed regular employment conditions; also in this sector the Carabinieri will do their part and remain available to citizens to receive any reports of abuse".
