Cagliari, Black Tuesday on Via Roma: traffic blocked all afternoon
First the subway cables collapsed, then an accident nearby: a nightmare dayPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Almost seven hours of continuous queue. This is what happened today in via Roma in Cagliari, where a series of complex situations have put a strain on – if not paralysed – traffic. Cars at a walking pace, traffic diversions, kilometre-long queues that began at the entrance to the city and almost non-stop inconveniences in one of the main arteries of the capital, already heavily affected by the construction site that began two years ago on the portico side and is still unfinished (except in the first part, but the reopening has not resolved the problems).
The first stop occurred around 2:00 p.m. Near Piazza Deffenu, under Palazzo Tirso, the electrical cables of the new light metro gave way (which has not yet made its debut on Via Roma, despite another never-ending construction site). A potentially very dangerous accident, which fortunately did not cause injuries or particular damage. The result? A blocked road, cars diverted from Via Roma towards Viale Diaz to avoid passing on Viale Colombo . With the vehicles inevitably spilling out onto the surrounding streets, from Viale Regina Margherita to Viale Diaz, and very long queues.
Around 4 pm the situation seemed to have returned to normal. But it was just an illusion. While at the same time a double pile-up created the now classic blockage in the Asse mediano , another accident on the opposite side caused several inconveniences. The one on the Statale 195 Racc, towards the Scafa bridge, at the entrance to Cagliari . It involved three cars, with three injured and as many ambulances. And there the traffic once again fell into chaos: hours and hours of cars in a queue, from the place of the accident to the end of via Roma.
The situation resolved itself around 8:30 p.m., when traffic resumed regularly, also because it was no longer rush hour . But, until Via Roma on the portico side is reopened, traffic jams and inconvenience are still expected for motorists.
