The technique used by scammers is one: first they ring the doorbell and, when someone opens the door, they introduce themselves saying they are old friends asking to come in to have a chat. Then they try to sell sheets at a high price. Someone falls for it and lets the stranger in, while others understand that it is an attempted scam and close the door.

It's been happening in the last few weeks in Cabras. Cristina Mancosu tells what happened to her elderly parents a few days ago: «It was last April 17th. A gentleman showed up asking my father and mother if he could come in to talk to them pretending to be an old friend. They kindly accepted. After a short time, however, this gentleman took out some sheets and a bedspread asking my parents to buy them for the price of 250 euros. They immediately said they weren't interested in the product. He insisted that it was a product he hadn't been able to sell at a fair in Riola Sardo. He therefore asked for 150 euros, then the gentleman dropped it to 50. Finally he left angry at the failure to sell ».

Cristina Mancosu, who later discovered that there was no fair in Riola, does not hide her concern: «I'm not serene at all. Also because this person showed up a second time late in the evening. My parents didn't open."

However, no reports have yet been received on the sheeting technique at the Cabras barracks. It is true that last March the carabinieri of the local station went up to the altar of the two churches in the town to explain precisely to the elderly how to behave when some stranger knocks on the door and asks to enter, inventing a reason. «We have given recommendations on the behaviors to be adopted in order to prevent the elderly from remaining the object of scams and scams - explained the commander Maurizio Porcu -. Now we also reach the church of Solanas».
