Dimitri Iacono, arrested in recent days for extortion in Alghero, availed himself of the right to remain silent, this morning in court in Sassari, before the investigating judge Giuseppe Grotteria during the preliminary hearing. Lawyers Elias Vacca and Marco Salaris have reserved the right to produce a brief regarding the precautionary custody of the suspect who, at the moment, remains in prison in Bancali.

The 32-year-old is accused of having kidnapped, threatened and beaten a businessman in the nautical sector of the Catalan city in recent days, together with a 16-year-old relative, and of having asked him for 50 thousand euros. In addition, they allegedly fired a 9mm pistol at the car to reinforce the intimidation.

The 43-year-old entrepreneur allegedly gave them 10,000 euros and only later did the agents of the mobile squad learn of the episode and proceed with the investigations and arrests. Iacono had already served 10 years out of 14 in prison as an accomplice in the murder of Agostino Salis, beaten to death in the hamlet of Maristella in 2014.
