Burcei is still mobilizing for Beniamino Zuncheddu and for the proposed law that bears his name. It has been doing so for a few days with a signature collection. The goal is to restore dignity to the victims of judicial errors and unjust detentions. Among the victims is also Beniamino Zuncheddu who spent 33 years in prison as an innocent man for the Sinnai massacre in 1991. Beniamino Zuncheddu is free, he lives in Burcei but is still waiting for adequate compensation for the injustice he suffered, as are many others in Italy. The minority city councilors Paola Zuncheddu, Alessandra Lussu and Antonello Monni are organizing the signature collection.

"Every year - the promoters of this nationwide signature collection recall - about a thousand people in Italy suffer unjust detentions that change their lives forever, with exorbitant costs paid by the State. Unfortunately, to obtain compensation you have to wait from 6 to 10 years. A long period with a lack of adequate support that leads many to desperate situations. The proposed law asks that a provisional financial compensation be guaranteed to those who, at the end of a trial, are acquitted. We have therefore decided to give our contribution by collecting signatures directly at Burcei also to help all citizens who do not have SPID and have difficulty signing online".

The Zuncheddu bill provides for the assignment of an immediate monthly income to victims of judicial errors and unjust detentions. It is   was presented to the Supreme Court on January 10th, bearing the name of the former prisoner of Burcei for the victims of judicial errors and unjust detentions. It is a popular initiative bill to immediately guarantee a monthly income upon the pronouncement of the review sentence (for those who have been unjustly convicted and then acquitted) and to those who, after having suffered prison or house arrest, are acquitted or acquitted because the fact does not exist, for not having committed the fact, because the fact does not constitute a crime or is not provided for by law as a crime.

The popular initiative bill was born from the case of Beniamino Zuncheddu, unjustly sentenced to life imprisonment, accused of a triple homicide that took place in 1991 in the countryside of Sinnai. The bill was presented by Irene Testa (treasurer of the Radical Party) together with Gaia Tortora and ten other victims of judicial errors.
