The case was triggered by a post published on social media, with defamatory accusations, which went viral, against the mayor Francesco Caggiari, who immediately received the solidarity of the entire country, from the mayors of the territory and of half of Sardinia.

Caggiari himself defines it as a bad page in the history of Bortigalese: «Someone, not well identified», he writes in a short note, «on social media writes defamatory accusations against me, which are discrediting my person, my family, my my friends, colleagues and simple acquaintances."

Repeated accusations, which pushed the mayor to turn to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Oristano, while yesterday he was received by the Prefect of Nuoro, Giancarlo Dionisi and by the officials of the Postal Police.

«I explained to the prefect my state of mind and my doubts regarding what has been happening in Bortigali for a few months now», the mayor writes in the note, «with a crescendo of lies, insults, more or less serious, culminating the day before yesterday with another post, which appears quite explicit in defining my person and work as mayor. I provided the same information to the director of Digos in Nuoro. However, once the investigations have been carried out, the Oristano Prosecutor's Office will clarify this sad story. If we succeed, as I hope, in shedding light on this ugly page, then I will have no mercy on anyone. Not being a good Samaritan, but a well-known thief, I will repay with the same cruelty the authors of the attacks on social media, which are causing me so much harm. I will join as a civil party and then we will see the results."

The mayor then thanks how close they have been to him, including his family, the majority group, the municipality employees, fellow mayors and veterinary colleagues and his community, to which he has dedicated himself for several years now. «I particularly thank the Prefect of Nuoro, Giancarlo Dionisi, the deputy, Luca Dessì and all those close to me in this terrible phase».
