The Judicial Authority has ordered an autopsy on the body of the 76-year-old recreational fisherman from Castelsardo , Giuseppe Santoni, who died during a fishing trip on Christmas Eve .

The man had been found on the rocks in Ampurias on Sunday morning after a long night of searches, which began following reports from family members. The rescue machine had been activated jointly with the Cvsm of Castelsardo - Civil Protection Maritime Rescue Volunteer Corps - arranging the intervention of the CP870 patrol boat of the La Maddalena port authority and the GC A60 boat of the Porto Torres port authority, in addition to the three nautical means of the civil protection and the Air Force helicopter.

The pensioner had gone out to sea aboard his small boat on the afternoon of Saturday 24 December, at 18.40, not seeing him return, the family members had triggered the alarm . The search activity, in which Mayor Antonio Capula had also participated, continued until the morning of 25 December, with the collaboration of the Coast Guard aircraft, Nemo 15, and the fire brigade, Drago 143.

At 10.10 the operations room of the Port Authority of Olbia was informed that the person had been found lifeless on the rocks near Lu Bagnu. On the spot, the nautical means recovered the 76-year-old and proceeded to transfer him to the port of Castelsardo where the medical guard ascertained his death.  

The coroner will have to ascertain the cause of death. In the meantime , searches on the boat continue : it is thought that it may have ended up adrift in the Gulf of Asinara. A notice has been published on the "Castelsardo Bene Comune" page for anyone who manages to spot the five and a half meter long vessel.
