Given the temperatures, it is unlikely that the fire will go out soon.

The latest report from the Zooprophylactic Institute (updated to October 28) records 3,706 outbreaks of Bluetongue; almost 169 thousand sick heads and 44,445 deaths.

This latter number is more or less the same as the epidemic two years ago, but the problem is that – while the number of infections shows no sign of decreasing – the death toll is occurring in a much shorter period of time.

An inflated number, according to the Region, which, instead of reflecting on (its own) delays in starting the last vaccination campaign, incautiously accuses veterinarians of exaggerating the final effects of the epidemic .

A slap in the face for the territorial veterinary services, which in this emergency are on the front lines with a staff reduced to the bare minimum: just over 200 vets who have to deal with 3 million and 200 thousand sheep (to which are added 300 thousand cattle and 180 thousand pigs) .
