In Sardinia, the race of the bluetongue virus seems to be slowing down. Almost a month after the last detection, the epidemic curve of contagion among sheep and cattle shows a declining phase.
This is highlighted by data from the Regional Zooprophylactic Institute. After a nightmare month, between the end of August and the end of September, characterized by a constant growth of new infected animals, the number of outbreaks has stopped at 3600. The serotypes that are continuing to circulate predominantly are 3 and 8. The numbers also speak of 39,079 dead animals and 159,141 infected animals.
On a provincial basis, currently the majority of active outbreaks are found in the Sassari area (919), the Oristano area (730), the Cagliari area (563) and the Nuoro area (514). They are followed by Medio Campidano with 298 outbreaks, Sulcis with 227, Gallura with 182 and Ogliastra with 102.
