Blocked patients, crowded operators: continuous nightmare at the Santissima Trinità
A tense afternoon in the Is Mirrionis hospital. A mother: «Having been waiting for six hours with my daughter: she is in severe pain after a car accident»Screams, tension, 118 operators crowded inside. Outside, nine ambulances parked in the square. One there from 9. Inside, all of them, patients waiting to be taken care of: it's useless to get them off, they would remain in the waiting room or parked in the corridors. There is a ban on "unpacking".
All this at 4 pm at the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari. Where emergency situations, which should be extraordinary, have now become everyday. And souls are exasperated. Those of everyone: of those who are inside the emergency room, of those who bring patients. And, obviously, of those who end up there because they're sick.
Elide Loddo has been waiting since 9 this morning: «I'm in the emergency room with my daughter Giulia who was in a car accident», she explains, «we've been waiting for a call for six long hours: she's complaining of pain in her head and back», denounces the woman, who wonders: «But is this long wait ever possible? I am disgusted by this sanity ».
For the daughter, as for many others, there is no place in the hospital. The leaders of the parties involved (Areus operations center and primary) now clash every other day as well.
All together, at 17.30, there were 125 patients waiting in the emergency rooms of Cagliari hospitals. More those who are stationed in the corridors, outside the statistics. Among all, only 8 are code white patients. That they shouldn't even be in the emergency room. But there are no alternatives in the area.
