No defendant will be examined in the trial underway in the Sassari court against, among others, Tonino Becciu, brother of Cardinal Angelo, and Corrado Melis, bishop of Ozieri.

Seven other individuals are on trial alongside them, charged with various counts of embezzlement, money laundering, aiding and abetting, and providing false information to the public prosecutor. The main charge, according to the indictment, is that of diverting 8x1000 funds from the Ozieri diocese to the Spes cooperative, chaired by Becciu himself, from 2013 to 2016. At this morning's hearing, the defendants' lawyers, Ivano Iai and Antonello Patané, stated that, at this time, since they have not yet received all the documents from the prosecutor's office, their clients will not submit to the examination.

At the next hearing, scheduled for October 14th by the panel presided over by Giancosimo Mura, with Monia Adami and Sara Pelicci as assistants , approximately seven witnesses will be heard. Among them are the current Archbishop of Sassari, Monsignor Francesco Soddu, who at the time of the protests was the national director of Caritas, and Monsignor Sebastiano Sanguinetti, former Bishop of Ozieri. The prosecutor is Gianni Caria.
