An unexpected and cruel drama that took place in a few hours in the Ogliastra countryside.

Gianfranco Incollu, a 55-year-old worker from Forestas, was taken ill and died at his home in Baunei at the end of a grueling day's work spent fighting the fires.

Incollu, a veteran of the island's firefighting machine, fell ill in the evening. The family members immediately called an ambulance which in turn alerted the ambulance.

The aircraft landed on the town's soccer field but there was nothing to be done, the worker died shortly before its arrival.

Yesterday an elderly man in Quartucciu also lost his life due to the very high temperatures that have placed the island in a grip of sultriness and heat like never before in history, 48 degrees were reached in Jerzu.

Having reached the peak, temperatures are now starting to drop significantly, from the Decimomannu Air Force weather office they speak of about ten degrees less. But the strong mistral, which can reach 70 km per hour, triggers the fire alarm.

From Friday the heat will return, but temperatures will be in line with the seasonal averages, just over 30 degrees.
