Flooded streets, inhabitants trapped in their homes, cars under water, blown manholes, collapsing walls and parts of houses.
Bad weather hit southern Sardinia, hitting Cagliari and the hinterland municipalities. But the problems were also recorded in other centers with the abundant rain that will continue throughout the day, going on at least until Tuesday.
Hundreds of calls were made to the firefighters and to the operations centers of the local police. A part of the house collapsed in Siliqua and the family who live there was moved to a makeshift accommodation.
In Cagliari, the most affected area is Pirri: via Italia and the streets in the area have been closed to traffic because the water has reached the guard level. Civil protection and the municipal police are in action. But the inconveniences are localized in many areas: viale Trieste, the median axis (there was also a road accident) and viale Diaz. From the Navy, several requests for help were received by the firefighters for infiltration into buildings and the risk of collapses.
At Poetto, a car got stuck in the water: the agents of the Flying Squad rescued a woman with two children, who were trapped in the car.
The violent downpour also flooded state road 554, temporarily closed in both directions at Selargius: between km 2.9 and 3.6 traffic was diverted to state road “131 dir”. On the spot there are traffic police and Anas teams engaged in the management of traffic.
In Quartu there are problems in many districts: cars almost underwater and entire streets turned into rivers. Discomforts were also reported in Flumini di Quartu. Reports also from Quartucciu and Monserrato. But the calls to the fire brigade are so numerous that there are many interventions waiting.
