Antonella Angioni's home on Via S'Ecca S'Arrideli in Quartu has had no power since Thursday. The power returned for a few hours, but then went out again, again today. Two days ago, in the scorching heat of their home, without the ability to turn on the air conditioning, her husband, Franco Cara, 84, died. Now his body lies in the bedroom, in an unprotected coffin awaiting cremation. The heat threatens to explode, and unfortunately, it emits odors.

"I don't know what to do without electricity," the woman says. "We've been in this condition since Thursday. They lent me a generator, but it makes such a deafening noise that it's unbearable, and my husband's body is in the room in this heat."

Cara, who owned a grocery store in S'Ecca S'Arrideli for many years, was one of the founders of the "Citizens' Movement for Flumini." His wife says: "He had been ill for some time. The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., when the cremation will take place in the San Michele cemetery, but in the meantime he's been at home for two days. I never wanted to take him to a nursing home because I wanted him to be with me. We were married for 52 years, and it's absurd that now, on top of mourning his death, I have to contend with this electricity issue. I'm grateful for the generator they lent us, but it's truly a nightmare keeping it running. It was on all night, disturbing the entire neighborhood. Here, the coffin is in danger of exploding, and no one does anything."

While the situation in Via Marconi and in some areas of the city's historic center seems to have returned to normal with power having returned after more than 24 hours, the emergency in Via S'Ecca S'Arrideli continues.

Electricity service has been restored.
