A semi-column base, a decorative architectural element, probably belonging to an important building from the Roman era. Finds identified in the village of Cala Reale on the island of Asinara , which an expert eye such as the Prime Minister Franco Satta, a former official of the Superintendence, is able to recognize.

On a visit to the island that houses prison structures and historical monuments, an ancient column rock was also found. “ The architectural elements that I photographed were most likely made on site by skilled workers with local granite from the old quarry of Cala Reale . But we don't know for sure to build what and especially when ”, Satta underlines.

The granite quarries remained in operation until the mid-nineteenth century. The finds, the dating of which has yet to be ascertained, “ certainly come from important structures whose traces have been lost , - explains Satta -. We therefore do not know if they belonged to public, religious or funerary buildings. Certainly, from a good research carried out in the field, excellent information could be obtained ”.
