«The recovery of such important spaces, nestled in such a wonderful place, can offer new generations great opportunities, creating an artistic ferment while respecting the environment, as you have been doing for some time».
Antonio Albanese enthusiastically supports the appeal launched by the cultural association “CineArena” - to date there are hundreds of adhesions collected on the island and on the change.org platform - on the occasion of the 19th edition of the festival “Pensieri e Parole: libri e film all'Asinara”, addressed to President Todde for the recovery of the former super prison of Fornelli, the guesthouse of Cala d'Oliva that hosted the judges Falcone and Borsellino, and the famous bunker where the mafia boss Totò Riina was detained.
Guest of the first day of the festival (Saturday 24 August), the Lombard actor and director was awarded for his “Cento domeniche”, a 2023 film written, directed and interpreted by the actor, screened during the evening dedicated to him, which moved and outraged the audience of the island. Sold out both days of the festival hosted in Fornelli, dedicated to cinema, music and literature, one of the four stages of the circuit that also involves the islands of Tavolara, La Maddalena and San Pietro. Great emotion also for the monologue written by Gianni Caria “Rosario va in pensione”, interpreted by the Roman actor Giulio Scarpati, guest of the second evening of the festival (Sunday 25 August) in which the former Public Prosecutor of Sassari, now Deputy Prosecutor, gives voice to the young magistrate Rosario Livatino, his colleague in Agrigento when he was killed by the mafia on 21 September 1990.
"The choice to write something dedicated to Rosario - explained Caria - comes many years after his murder to put time and distance on those events that naturally touched me a lot. I wanted to talk about what was - he added - and what could have been, about the regrets and the erased hopes, about the heroism and sense of duty of this young servant of the State". The director Alessandro Di Robilant dedicated the famous film "Il giudice ragazzino" to the magistrate's story, which starred a very young Scarpati in 1994, who celebrated his thirtieth birthday on the island. "For me it was an honor to play Rosario, then I was also lucky enough to meet his parents - said the actor - I lived this experience as a professional watershed, feeling all the responsibility of the story we were telling".
Also books and stories, as per tradition, during the two days of the festival with the discussion between Luana Ilardo, daughter of Luigi Ilardo, a collaborator of justice, killed by the mafia in 1996, and the director of the Asinara National Park Vittorio Gazale on the book by Anna Vinci "Luigi Ilardo. State Murder", and the presentation of the mystery by Nora Venturini, theater director and screenwriter, "Una morte senza peso" together with the president of ARCI Nord Sardegna, Franco Uda. And again the story on “Le Ribelli” by the sociologist Nando Dalla Chiesa, son of General Carlo Alberto and honorary president of the Libera association with the journalist Giacomo Mameli, dedicated to the stories of women who have challenged the mafia for love, and the screenwriter and director Giorgio Amato with his "Il segreto di Natale", the new work by the Sardinian director of "Lo sposa indeciso". Music in the first evening with the "Songs from the Supercarcere" performed by the actress Daniela Cossiga and the singer-songwriter "Bandito" together with the bassist Matteo Anelli and the rapper from Sassari Salvatore Canneddu with notes and words dedicated to prison and its thousand meanings, and in the second with the concert "Mamma mia dammi cento lire", dedicated to the stories and songs of emigration.
Also noteworthy is the debate on “One Hundred Years with the Radio On” on the first evening of the festival, animated by radio speaker and host Giovanna Delvino, together with Andrea Maurizi, president of Radio Uni Sassari and Carlo Pahler president of Rad-Uni, the association of Italian University Radios. “This is one of the editions to which we feel particularly attached,” explains artistic director Sante Maurizi, “and not only because we are rapidly approaching the twentieth anniversary, but also because, in agreement with the municipality and the park, we have chosen to launch this appeal to make the island’s facilities accessible to the public, which have been closed for too long and represent one of the best “pieces” of this country’s memory.”
