The call center sector is also experiencing a crisis in Sardinia due to the introduction of artificial intelligence systems : dozens of jobs are at risk on the island. This employment crisis could soon bring many Sardinian families to their knees.
Alessandro Randaccio of Slc-Cgil Sardegna, Alberto Frau of Fistel-Cisl Sardegna, and Marianna Stara of Uilfpc Sardegna have denounced this. They have recently called workers' assemblies to assess the situation and plan the first national strike in the sector, which will take place from July 13th to 27th.
During the meetings, the reasons for the mobilization were explained: "First and foremost, the sharp decline in employment the sector is experiencing," the unionists emphasized, "also due to the massive and uncontrolled introduction of artificial intelligence within companies in a sector where, let's remember, 70% of women work part-time."
The unions believe it is essential to "engage MIMIT, which has so far been deaf to our requests, strengthen the dispute, and secure, as soon as possible, the opening of a dedicated structural forum for the sector, which is essential to addressing its critical issues and guaranteeing employment prospects."
Even in Sardinia, the adoption of chatbots, virtual assistants, and automated customer request management systems could quickly put dozens of people out of work .
"The transformation is underway," the unions reiterate, "and is proceeding at a pace that leaves no room for further delay. We urge Sardinian workers to join the strike and support a dispute that is crucial to the future of the sector."
The strike, from Monday, July 13th to Monday, July 27th, will affect full-time staff during the last two hours of their shift and part-time staff during the last hour of their shift, according to the procedures set out in the proclamation.
