Critical issues surrounding waste collection in Aghero have become the focus of political controversy. The Environment Office has criticized the poor service provided by Ciclat , the company that provides urban waste management services, highlighting a series of breaches by operators that have affected various businesses and condominiums , including individual households who complain about partial garbage collections in some streets. Large bags are often left next to wheeled bins due to the large volume of waste produced at the height of the season, with a total attendance exceeding 100,000.

The workers responded by threatening to strike . Therefore, the RSU Fidel, the environmental sector union, requested an urgent meeting with Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto and the relevant councilor, Raniero Selva.

Michele Pais, leader of the Lega Nord group in Alghero, also addressed the issue: "The text of the complaint alleging breaches in the waste collection service undermines any clumsy attempt to conceal the serious deficiencies committed thus far by the municipal administration ," he stated. "What is disconcerting, however, is that the administration, hiding behind a note signed by officials responsible for the environmental service, is shifting the blame onto the workers , accusing them of damaging the decorum and image of the city by carrying out routine waste collection activities. This is an absurd and unjust accusation, targeting those who work every day at a grueling pace and in extremely difficult conditions. My full solidarity and that of the Lega Nord group goes out to them."

The City's stance provoked a reaction from the RSU, which requested a meeting with the administration and threatened a strike. "We stand with them," Pais said.
