The Sardinian New Year's Eve celebrations will unite Alghero and the island's other towns, all of which will be the protagonists of a long night of celebrations, broadcast live on national television. The initiative was presented this morning in Cagliari, at the headquarters of the regional tourism department.
At the table were Councilor Franco Cuccureddu, Mayor of Alghero Raimondo Cacciotto, President of the Alghero Foundation Graziano Porcu, and regional officials. "A great opportunity for Alghero, which we seized without hesitation," Cacciotto reported, "also because it gives the city and the surrounding area national visibility during one of the most important times of the year." The Region's project aims to transform New Year's Eve into a major showcase for the entire island and, above all, a tool for deseasonalizing the holidays.
"The results of recent years tell us that this approach is working, and that the number of visitors generated in the winter months is now significant," the mayor emphasizes. The goal is to spread tourist flows throughout the year, focusing not only on the sea but also on historical and archaeological heritage, culture, food and wine, events, and sports. "New Year's Eve fits perfectly into this process," Cacciotto concludes, "an opportunity to bring Alghero and Sardinia to the national spotlight and remind us that our destination has so much to offer year-round."
The agreement between the Sardinia Region and the Municipality of Alghero, as the Region explains, formalizes the allocation of €3 million for the event. The Municipality of Alghero will be the implementing body, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the logistical, artistic, and promotional aspects of the major end-of-year event, in coordination with the Region and within the framework of the unified New Year's Eve celebrations in Sardinia.
