Alghero pays tribute to Joaquim Arenas i Sampera with two days of events dedicated to him and his commitment to the Catalan language and culture. The event, promoted by Òmnium Cultural de l'Alguer, will be held on May 8th and 9th and is open to all citizens.

A teacher, pedagogue, and writer, Arenas was head of the Catalan Teaching Service of the Generalitat de Catalunya and a key figure in the dissemination of the Alghero language in schools. Founder of Òmnium Cultural de l'Alguer, he has maintained strong ties to the city and its cultural community. The first event is scheduled for Friday, May 8th at 6:00 PM in the conference room of the Ex Seminario (Via Sassari 179), with an Act of Homage attended by his wife, Margarida Muset.

Speakers are scheduled: Aldo Dore, Tonino Baldino, Andreu Bosch, Stefano Campus, Carmela Frulio, Gianfranco Russino, Guido Sari, and Luca Scala. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, May 9th, at 6:30 PM in the Cathedral of Santa Maria.
