There were moments of panic this afternoon at the Eurospin store on Via La Marmora, in Alghero . A woman in line at the checkout sprayed a can of pepper spray at those in line , causing a chain reaction among the customers.

Coughing, burning eyes, irritation, and general confusion: the substance affected several people in the queue.

“Yes, it was me, you’re too close,” the woman reportedly said coldly to the protests of those present, before walking away undisturbed.

One of the sales assistants, who had fallen ill, was rescued and taken away, while the supermarket staff temporarily closed the doors to contain the situation and protect customers.

Police officers are on site investigating the incident to shed light on the circumstances and track down the person responsible.
