Alessandro Becce is the new Secretary General of the Sardinian Sea Port Authority. The appointment, succeeding Natale Ditel, who left office in February, came during the first meeting of the management committee convened by President Domenico Bagalà. Becce is "an electrical engineer, former president of the Savona Port Authority, and has been working in the port and logistics sector in Italy (Cagliari - La Spezia) and internationally for over thirty years, particularly in the container, general cargo, bulk, and project cargo sectors," according to a statement from the authority. He previously worked in Cagliari: he was CEO of CICT, the Contship Italia Group's Cagliari International Container Terminal, founded in Genoa in 1969 and operating in the city until 2019.
During the Committee meeting, Bagalá outlined the key points of his four-year mandate: interinstitutional dialogue and synergy; systemic planning and programming of projects aimed at enhancing the historic and traditional vocations of individual ports and the productive activities present in their hinterland (recreational boatbuilding, logistics, innovative production); and implementation of environmental and energy policies, both for reducing emissions and for conscious infrastructure development aimed at creating new circular economies.
Particular attention was paid to geopolitical dynamics and their inevitable impact on the global economy and maritime transport. In this regard, during his presentation on traffic trends and the highly uncertain forecasts for 2026, Bagalà emphasized the need for concerted action to advocate for the permanent elimination of the ETS, the European Union's carbon emissions trading system. "With the first meeting of the Management Committee and the appointment of the Secretary General, we are completing the organization's structure," Bagalà explained. "I am very pleased with the composition and high profile of this team. This valuable mix of experience and expertise is now more necessary than ever to address the complex challenges, but also the numerous opportunities, of a rapidly evolving Blue Economy, which requires constant adaptation to a particularly fluid geopolitical situation."
