Until last year it seemed just one of the many provocations that Ryanair has accustomed us to: "If the Region reduced taxes on air transport we could invest in the island and bring two million more passengers". Words of the commercial director Jason Mc Guinnes, who in those days was in Cagliari to present the future projects of the low cost.

The idea of cutting the municipal surcharge on boarding rights, that is, the 6.5 euros that each passenger pays for each ticket, is fascinating. It would take money – about thirty million – and political will. Two prerequisites that Ryanair has found in other Italian regions in the meantime. First Friuli, then Calabria. And finally, a few days ago, Abruzzo. The result was substantially identical in all the territories affected by the measure: the low-cost company announced new routes and the strengthening of its bases at airports. In short, no bluff.
