The Court of Appeal of Sassari has revoked the house arrest against Devrim Akcadag , the 48-year-old German citizen of Turkish origin arrested last August 1st by the Digos of Sassari in execution of an international warrant issued by the Turkish authorities who accuse him of being « a PKK terrorist."
The Court, presided over by Salvatore Marinaro, today issued the measure revoking the house arrest to which he had been subjected since 4 August, in the center of the Sardinian Association against Marginalization (Asce) in Selargius, accepting the request of the defense lawyers, Michele Zuddas and Nicola Canestrini.
«Considering the appreciable time spent in self-custodial regime – is the motivation – without the Akcadag having given rise to any findings of any kind and the elements offered by the defense with the documentation produced, suggest that the precautionary requirements originally posed have now ceased basis of the measure ".
Devrim Akcadag had been arrested by Digos in a tourist residence in Trinità d'Agultu , where he had just arrived with his minor daughter to spend a holiday period. Turkey accuses him of supporting the Kurdish workers' party, PKK/KCK.
According to the Turkish authorities, he gave logistical support to the PKK members, also collaborating in the diffusion of their political ideas. For this reason he requested his extradition. The man has always declared himself innocent of the accusations.
