Stefano Sini, the Anas manager who was tried for the death of a motorist in May 2018 on the outskirts of Sassari, was acquitted by the Sassari Court because the facts were not proven .

Sini, as head of the Anas Department Maintenance Center in the province of Sassari, was indicted in July 2022 for "negligence, recklessness, and incompetence." Specifically, "by failing to provide the affected section of road with a suitable flood warning sign, he caused the traumatic death of Alessandro Ortu."

But the sentence pronounced in recent weeks by the judge of the single-judge court of Sassari, Sara Pelicci, completely exonerated him.

The victim of the road accident was burned to death inside his car after losing control of the vehicle due to flooding and crashing into the pylon of an overpass on State Road 291. Investigations into the accident, which emerged during the trial, revealed that the road signs on the stretch of road "were appropriate and adequate" for the actual situation on the road.

Furthermore, the young man was driving a 21-year-old car, whose inspection had expired approximately two months earlier and which was therefore unfit for circulation, and which had worn rear tyres.

Despite it being raining cats and dogs - the investigation revealed - the victim was driving at a speed of between 85 and 100 km/h, despite the speed limit being 50 km/h.
