A white t-shirt with his smiling face, a torch in his hands and a silence full of emotion. A year after that tragic night in via Caprera, Cagliari is preparing to remember Fabio Piga, 37, killed with a stab wound to the chest in Donegal, in via Mameli.

It was June 2, 2024. A fight broke out in the bathrooms of the club, a few moments, a single blow: enough to take the life of a man known and loved by all.

A former carabiniere, now employed in a large company, Fabio was a well-known face in the city, a familiar presence for friends and colleagues. That evening he had seen something strange and had approached, perhaps to help, perhaps to understand. On the other side was Yari Fa, 19, from San Michele, arrested a few hours later on charges of voluntary homicide.

Today, twelve months later, Cagliari does not forget him. At 8:30 pm on Sunday, a torchlight procession will start from Piazza Yenne and reach Donegal. It is organized by Fabio's friends, who will walk together wearing a commemorative T-shirt with his face and the writing: "You are always in our hearts".

First, at 6:30 p.m., a memorial mass will be celebrated in the parish of Sant'Elia. A moment of recollection for those who shared a stretch of the road with Fabio, for those who miss him every day, and for a city that in that tragic episode saw the fragile boundary between an ordinary night and the irreparable fade away. “Fabio was a good man,” his friends say, “and Cagliari, with a torch and one step after another, tries to keep the light of his memory alive.”
