A wave of color and hope transformed the pediatric radiotherapy room of the Businco oncology hospital in Cagliari. Thanks to the pictorial humanization project, created by the Sally Galotti Healthcare Design Studio, the walls are now animated by images of the sea, boats, dolphins and seagulls, symbols of freedom and serenity.

The ribbon cutting coincided with the presentation of the new technologies that are revolutionizing oncology therapy on the island. «We have already put into operation a machine for tomotherapy, a type of radiotherapy used to fight tumors or for palliative purposes, which allows for better effectiveness thanks to greater irradiation of the target. It is the only one in Sardinia", explained Raffaele Barbara, director of the oncological disease treatment department. From next July 8th, another latest generation machine for stereotactic radiotherapy will also come into operation, which allows a high dose of radiation to be sent with extreme precision.

The credit for the transformation of the room goes to the IVI association, founded by Antonella Casula, a mother who accompanied her son Ivaldo in his battle against a brain tumor. Determined to make the journey less traumatic for other children and their families, Antonella continued the project with determination. «This room is very important both for children and for those who are no longer children», added Agnese Foddis, general director of Arnas. «It's all thanks to this special mother and her experience at Bambin Gesù in Rome. Today, thanks to this project, patients will face the reality around them with more optimism."

During the blessing of the room, the archbishop of Cagliari, Giuseppe Baturi, underlined the importance of this regenerated space. “This mother is a beautiful testimony,” he highlighted, recalling that children are a collective heritage of good, hope and grace, and that their well-being involves all of us.
