GreenIT, the joint venture between Plenitude and CDP Equity for the production of energy from renewable sources, and CI IV, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), have signed an agreement for the construction of two floating offshore wind farms in Sardinia and in Sicily, both located over 35 km from the coast, for a total capacity of approximately 750 MW.

This was announced in a note underlining that the agreement is aimed at the development, construction and management, in Sardinia, of a park to be built in the sea area in front of the southwestern coast, consisting of 42 wind turbines, with a power of 12 MW each. for a total capacity of over 500 MW.

The planned project in Sicily, off the coast of Marsala, consists of 21 turbines with a power of approximately 12 MW each and a total capacity of approximately 250 MW.

Contributing to the two projects, also as minority shareholders, are Italian companies such as Nice Technology and 7 Seas Wind for Sardinia and Lilybeo Wind Power for Sicily.

The plants envisage the use of floating platforms and the implementation of innovative technological solutions, aimed at minimizing the environmental and visual impact, as well as favoring the development of local and national industry.

The two wind farms, it is specified, "will produce more than 2,000 GWh / year, which is equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of almost 750,000 households in the areas concerned and which represent, with the same installed capacity, an increase of approximately 50% compared to the average production of an onshore wind farm ".

The start of operations is currently expected in 2026 in Sicily and in 2028 in Sardinia, at the end of the authorization phase and subsequent construction.

The initiative, the note continues, will make it possible to avoid carbon dioxide emissions for about 1 million tons on an annual basis.
