"Despite our amendment to Article 583-quater of the Criminal Code, which now ensures greater protection for referees and match officials, attacks against them continue and almost nothing happens. The time for words and indignation over these attacks, over this violence, is over . The Government has approved a law that equates referees to public officials and provides for arrest for acts like the one in question, the Amateur League and the sports justice system have done their part. Who is responsible for enforcing the state law? The answer is simple. Do we want to enforce it? I would say absolutely yes." Thus Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth, returns to the story of the 17-year-old referee attacked by a manager in Sardinia in X.
Abodi then recalls the incident in which the girl was " slapped and punched by a thug disguised as a manager , who sent her to the hospital where she was given a 45-day prognosis," and emphasizes how the manager himself "should have been an example of loyalty, respect, politeness, and responsibility. And his company adds one more 'but,'" he concludes.
