«In a few weeks we will present the measure for the reopening of mines in our country to the Council of Ministers».
Thus Adolfo Urso , Minister for Business and Made in Italy, during a speech at the convention of young entrepreneurs of Confindustria in Rapallo .
«We directed the European Commission in the regulation which was then approved and has been in force for a few days, of which Italy wants to be a forerunner, precisely, with the national legislative provision », added Urso.
An announcement that reaffirms the Government's desire to return to focusing on the "self-sufficient" extraction of minerals and especially of rare earths , «to ensure - Urso himself explained to the Chamber last April - a safe supply chain of critical raw materials and rapid implementation and to promote recycling" .
A strategy that could also have Sardinia as a protagonist and in particular the granite mine in Buddusò, a potential deposit - as revealed by a study by the University of Ferrara - of many "critical" or rare materials, such as Lanthanum, Cerium, Praseodymium, Samarium and Neodymium.
«Today, new technologies make it possible to reactivate mines closed over 30 years ago», the minister underlined, again in April, citing Sardinia, together with Lazio and Piedmont, as a new, potential “Eldorado” where extractive activities can resume .
Precisely on the subject of mining, in recent days Urso went on a mission to Tunis . In fact, the Government's strategy includes not only the reactivation of national mines and deposits, but also the stipulation of agreements for the import and export of extracted materials.
«With Tunisia it is possible to start a path of mutual interest and development on critical raw materials, which are the foundation of green technology and digital technology, the double transition that is changing global structures» , said Urso while meeting his Tunisian counterpart .
«Italy – he explained on the occasion – is ready to collaborate with Tunisia, also through our companies, in joint projects to develop the extraction and processing of raw materials in an industrial supply chain that can represent a new model of virtuous partnership. A win-win scheme - highlighted Urso - as Enrico Mattei, to whom our plan for Africa is dedicated, taught in the last century".
