The referendum on work and citizenship has ultimately turned out to be a flop. The quorum remains far away : Italian citizens deserted the polls, Sardinian ones even more so.

According to the final data , the turnout at the national level stands at 30.58%. In Sardinia it is 27.74%, one of the lowest figures . Only in Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Calabria and Sicily is the turnout lower, in Molise it is practically the same. In short, less than one in three Italians and just over one in four Sardinians went to the polls.

The municipal elections obviously drove the referendum turnout, in fact in Nuoro , Soleminis, Monastir, Luras and Oniferi the quorum was reached . As well as in Lodine , where however the citizens were not called to vote for the administrative elections.

Obviously the yes vote is clearly ahead in all the questions (between 87 and 88% for those on work, just over 60% for those on citizenship), but the failure to reach the quorum of 50% makes the results useless .

There were five questions proposed: four on work by the CGIL (reinstatement of unlawful dismissals, dismissals and limit on compensation in SMEs, protection of fixed-term contracts and liability for accidents at work) and one proposed by the +Europa deputy Riccardo Magi to halve the time to obtain Italian citizenship from 10 to 5 years.

"Our goal was to reach the quorum to change the laws, it is clear that we have not reached it. Today is not a day of victory". Thus the secretary general of the Cgil, Maurizio Landini, in a press conference after the closing of the polls. "Salvini: "Huge defeat for the left". Tajani: "Failed assault by the opposition, Government strengthened".
