Accelerating the process for the production of lithium for batteries in Portovesme is possible, but the company must first present an industrial plan.

This was stated by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso speaking on Radio 24: «The ministry is active and intervenes, but it must be Glencore that presents a convincing industrial plan. We are waiting for him to do so."

On the possibility of speeding up the procedures, which according to what was communicated by the Region include a complete environmental impact assessment (which pushed Glencore to threaten to leave the site), Urso said a convinced "yes": "For national strategic sites - he explained – we are applying a new law that derogates from many constraints, the last one we did for the Lampedusa works".
