The blockade at the gates of Portovesme Srl in Portoscuso has been eased but the mobilization of workers does not stop. And there is great expectation for the appointment on Monday 3 April when the top management of Glencore will arrive from Switzerland at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy for a meeting on the dispute.

Yesterday Undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto met the representatives of Portovesme srl at Mimit to discuss issues relating to the company's crisis, which shut down most of the plants due to energy costs and awaiting a feasibility study for the conversion of a part of the factory in the industrial area of Portovesme.

«With the managing director Davide Garofalo, in a climate of collaboration, the issues already addressed at the table last Friday were explored, when the undersecretary had asked the company to reactivate the ovens and resume activities», Mimit reports. . But the company itself, with a note, had reiterated that " the current general conditions of the market and the volatility of the price of energy do not facilitate a complete restart of the production plants" .

During the last CDM, the government put in place the 45% tax credit until 30 June for businesses, a measure which however is short-lived, as underlined by the unions who are calling for structural interventions. At Portovesme srl, then, the request is to reactivate production due to the changed scenario of energy costs, more favorable than in 2022.

Meanwhile, the protests in Portoscuso and the permanent assembly at the San Gavino Monreale foundry continue, as are the talks between the unions and the company, even today.
