Mobilization of fishing companies, to ask for the immediate start of extraordinary maintenance work on Sardinian ponds, planned for more than three years, with a total allocation of 6 million euros and never started; to ask for certain rules on wild fauna and the methods of compensation for the damage that these cause to fish production; to establish fairer rules on eel fishing and the use of bertovelli; to open a technical table that sees fishermen as protagonists of their future. On Thursday in the square in Viale Trento in Cagliari there will be representatives of Legacoop, Confcooperative Fedagripesca, and the Agci Agrital shipowners' association.

« The inland fishing industry in Sardinia is particularly important within the broader fishing and aquaculture sector, both for the number of lagoons managed for production purposes and their extension , and for the overall number of employees and value of production generated, as well as for the many potentials that are still partly not fully expressed», a note underlines.

Overall, 24 fish farms are managed in Sardinia by 20 cooperative companies, almost all of which are under concession by the regional Department of Agriculture. The total extension of the lagoons managed for production purposes is approximately 10,000 hectares, distributed throughout the regional territory, with particular relevance in the Oristano area, where approximately 5,600 hectares are managed, the Cagliari area has over 1,800 hectares and the Sulcis area almost 1,300. Important experiences can also be found in Ogliastra-Sarrabus-Gerrei (682 hectares), in Gallura-Baronia (almost 400 hectares) and in North-Western Sardinia (289 hectares), with approximately 1,000 direct employees in total.
