After two years of restrictions, the Ploaghe community is preparing to re-embrace one of its oldest and most evocative traditions: the Ferragosto candlesticks . Local families will again accompany the Candlesticks on the day of the Assumption. Upon arrival in the square, in fact, the candles, dedicated to St. Peter and the Child Jesus, will have next to two married couples , the obrieri, thus resuming a tradition that had been lost for some years.

Same ceremonial for the last release on August 22nd.

The four outings in total represent the unique and characteristic aspect of the candles from Ploaghe: the candlesticks parade on the day of “Corpus Domini”, in the relative Octave, on the day of the Assumption and on 22 August . To bear the weight of tradition, as well as the physical one, due to the imposing mass of the candles, are the "Sos de Sutta" , the bearers who with their tireless passion lead the candles on the path that reunites them with the procession, just before the arrival in St. Peter's Square. There will also be international folk groups awaiting the arrival of the procession in the main square and later, at 10 pm, they will give life to the traditional international festival of folklore.

The celebrations for the Candlesticks, in fact, are not limited to the religious aspect. Throughout the summer, the municipal administration wanted to organize a large series of events called "I Candelieri and the ploaghese mid-August" , which began this year in July, thanks to the precious contribution of the local Pro Loco, various committees and associations. , of the Ploaghe choir and of the musical band. After the event of the Candelieri other initiatives will be held. Starting with the Paps concert "I want to go back to the 90s", scheduled for August 16. .
