The former footballer, 80 years old and three times winner of the World Cup with Brazil (1958, 1962, 1970), had been operated on September 4 for a suspected colon cancer discovered during some routine examinations.

He remained in the ICU until September 14, before being transferred to the ward, but on Friday he made a brief return to the ICU "as a preventative measure" due to a small "respiratory instability".
