The proposed modification of the specification of the Consorzio del Pecorino Romano DOP which intended to introduce new rules for the delivery of milk coming not only from the historical areas (Sardinia, Lazio and the province of Grosseto), but also from those "exogenous".

The assembly, which met today in Borore, did not find an agreement on the issue on the agenda between those who would like the cheese, one of the most loved abroad, to be produced exclusively with Sardinian and Lazio sheep's milk. or Tuscany and who would like to insert a tolerance margin of at least 10%.

Neither of the two hypotheses has reached the ok by the majority of the shareholders, who are altogether about forty. For this reason the discussion was postponed to January 12, 2022.

"It was a participatory assembly that led to a constructive discussion - commented the president of the Consortium Gianni Maoddi -. After voting on several important points, the assembly, due to time issues having been meeting for many hours, decided to update to January 12. On that occasion we will speak only of the race issue, after further important investigations so that we can arrive at the best possible decision ".

The main organizations of the sector and shepherds without flags had also taken a position on the subject: the latter, like Coldiretti, ask that the milk given to the Consortium comes only from historic farms, while Confagricoltura, Cia and Copagri are, on the other hand, in favor of "a physiological accidental tolerance of milk from other breeds, in a minimum percentage indicated by the Consortium's shareholders' meeting ".
