It was in the air , now the official announcement has arrived: Walter Mazzarri is no longer the Cagliari coach .

The club reports it in a meager statement: "Cagliari Calcio announces that they have relieved Walter Mazzarri from his post as first team coach". The Tuscan technician therefore torpedoed after the home defeat against Verona, the seventh in the last eight games.

In his place, for the last three days of the championship, there will most likely be the Primavera coach Alessandro Agostini , a former Rossoblù defender. An official confirmation from the club is still awaited on this point.

Mazzarri had taken over from Leonardo Semplici , sacked after three championship days. Three like the matches that are missing at the end of the championship in which Cagliari must do everything to confirm itself in the top flight. Starting with the very delicate direct clash on Sunday on the Salernitana field, a match that is worth a season.

A relationship that never took off the one between the Cagliari square and the Tuscan technician . A disastrous first round, penultimate team with 10 points and only one victory. Then some encouraging signs and a recovery that gave hope for a more peaceful salvation, then the new collapse: seven defeats in eight games that have plunged the rossoblù back into the nightmare. Three days from the end Cagliari is fourth from bottom with 28 points, followed by Salernitana with 26 (who has one game less), then Genoa and Venice with 25 and 22. Now the new coach, most likely Agostini, is called to play for the all for all in two direct clashes (in Salerno and Venice), with the home match against Inter in between.

Mazzarri's experience thus ends after eight very disappointing months: out of 32 games only 6 wins, 9 draws and 17 defeats with an average points of 0.84 per game.
